Over the weekend participants raised money for the 18th annual Legends Car Club "Drive for Cancer" fundraiser.

The money, which is collected through pledges during a poker run, is then donated to South Central Cancer Resource (SCCR).

Gail Shimonek is a board member with SCCR.

"It was a great day," said Shimonek. "It started off in Altona, and off to Morris, and Steinbach, Vita and back to Altona."

Shimonek added that cancer has impacted her life in many ways.

"I battled cancer twice and my husband passed away 7 months ago of cancer," she explained.

During the event Shimonek said it was good to see people working toward a common cause.

Most of the money raised will go toward transportation costs, which covers the costs of patients travelling to and from appointments.

Legends Car Club co-chair Lyle Dunsmore said about 35 to 40 cars participated.

"Everybody knows somebody who's been touched by cancer, and so it's a good cause for our group to get together," Dunsmore said.

Over the lifetime of this event Legends Car Club has raised over $200,000 dollars.
