Border Land School Division has made literacy a top priority this year, with the introduction of Overdrive E-books.

Over the years and with the increase in technology older students in high school and junior high are no longer reading like they used to, causing a decline in their literacy skills.

Overdrive is a new program provided to Border Land School Division students. The program allows any student to access thousands of book titles online from any device, like a cell phone, computer, or tablet at home and in school.

"A lot of kids and parents are asking me how to log in and teachers are noticing students using the program, so far I think it is going pretty well," said Jennifer Mauger Librarian for Roseau Valley School in Dominion City.

Mauger also noted that the easy access will help students maintain or even improve their reading skills if used during long breaks like Christmas, Spring and Summer Holidays, when often students decline or even lose a lot of their reading skills.

If you are a Border Land School Division student or parent interested in the Overdrive program, contact your local school library for more details.
