Relief is in full swing for the countries affected by recent hurricanes near the Leeward Islands.

A pair of local companies has teamed up to help with these efforts. Winkler Canvas and Decor Cabinets have teamed up to make and deliver tarps to places in need.

Owner of Winkler Canvas, Chris Unrau says, through working with Missionary Flights International (MFI), this was one way they could contribute. These tarps will be utilized as roofs for people who lost or never had one.

"This a very temporary solution, but it's an immediate need," said Unrau. "The people there are going to need help for a long time."

47 tarps were made as part of this effort. Unrau had asked his staff at Winkler Canvas to see if this was something they'd be interested in and they were. He added the business would donate the space and materials while the staff would volunteer time to make them.

Meanwhile, Decor Cabinets has come on board and will be covering the freight and delivery of the tarps to Florida.

"When we got asked it was a no-brainer," said Decor Cabinets VP of Sales Stan Pauls. "That was a thirty-second decision because it's just the right thing to do."

Once these tarps have reached Florida, MFI would fly them to the places in need.

Unrau noted this region is very special in terms of helping others.

"I also think one of the things that are underrated or underestimated is the power of the business community to do things like this," said Unrau.

He continued to say this is something he would like to continue to do in the future, but it's completely up to the staff.

"It's a community getting together to reach out and help other people who are less fortunate, who are really desperate, and are in a real time of need," said Unrau.
