The Winkler Horticulture Society is gearing up for Christmas.

Society members could be seen Thursday afternoon placing Christmas decorations and plants just north of Highway 14. The garden is often known by its old cars and little red shack.

"We're just here together as a group of ladies trying to create community spirit, and a place for families to come out," says Valerie Harder, Secretary of the Horticulture Society.

She says the garden is a great place for people to take photos, have a picnic, or enjoy spending time together outside.

"We are also engaging on a fundraiser. There's going to be centrepieces that are going to be put together," and they will be available for order in December.

During the year they get funding from the city for flower beds, but there are always supplies that are needed which need to be funded from outside of the budget.

As well, the society is looking forward to next spring as they have already ordered flowers and plants for when the winter leaves.

Harder says the public should take advantage of the centrepieces as they are a fun way to help support Winkler horticulture.

"They'll make great little presents [for] grandmothers, mothers, or even for yourself," and it is a nice way to bring Christmas greens inside for the whole family to enjoy.
