The Seventies Show last weekend helped raise money for Southern Manitoba's long-running folk festival, The Back 40 Festival.

"This is our only fundraiser for the year so it's super important," Organizer Bill Dowling explains. "We really appreciate people coming out and supporting us."

The concert featured 70's hits of Carole King, Bill Withers, Deep Purple and the Bee Gees, covered by local artists like Loretta Thorleifson, Jayme Giesbrecht and the Soul Revue Band, Hey Zeus Marimba, and The Committee.

Dowling notes the 70's is a great decade of music to cover, "it went from amazing to sublime to ridiculous... and all kinds of styles. That's what's great about a show like this, we can mix it up."

The Seventies Show moves from soul to blues to heavy rock.

Organized by the Back 40 Festival, the money raised from the Seventies Show helps keep the annual folk fest running.

"We really try to keep a good mix of local, that's what the Back 40 is all about," Dowling says. "Getting people to play locally and encourage homemade music and keep that going."

The noon to dusk Back 40 Festival takes place this June in the Morden Park.
