Local musician Rosemary Siemens played at the seat of government in Canada this week at the National Prayer Breakfast.

She says the experience changed the way she views the future of Canada.

"We came from there so uplifted. There are so many Christians in government and so many people doing this silent work... there's almost a rumbling, a resurgence of Christianity and prayer... we came away feeling so hopeful for the country."

Siemens had the honour of performing for the country's leaders, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer, at the evening gala and breakfast Monday night and Tuesday morning. The event creates a space for elected public officials to gather and connect through a shared Christian faith.

Siemens, a world-renowned violinist, performed together with husband and saxophonist Eli Bennett and Winkler duo Orlando and Grace Sukkau.

Siemens says the response from the hundreds gathered in Ottawa was overwhelming. She specifically wrote a song, 'Path of Prayer' for the event. With a gathering of the country's leaders and prominent Christians, Siemens says it was also fitting to perform a number of hymns.

"All the song choices went really well... that's a big part of it, knowing the right songs to put at the right time," she says, adding they felt the prayers of friends and family throughout the performances.

"I know many people were touched and that's what we wanted. It went better than I could've ever hoped... I know a lot of people were praying for that and I really appreciate that."
