Two Special Olympics athletes from the Pembina Valley, Morden and Altona, are competing against other countries at the Special Olympics world games in Austria, and both have won medals in snowshoeing.

Chrissy Peters and Valerie Delorme are representing Southern Manitoba with three medals between them. Peters won gold in the 100 metre race and bronze in the 200. Delorme earned bronze in the 100 metre race and silver in the 4x100 relay race.

"It's been an experience of a life-time," said Team Canada snowshoeing coach, Sabrina Klassen.

Peters attended the world games in Shanghai in 2007, but this is Delorme's first time and Klassen shared that she was blown away.

"Words can't describe how amazing it's been," Klassen said.

A number of other athletes with Team Canada have broken their own personal records.

Peters, Delorme, and Klassen will be back in Winnipeg on Saturday after a long journey.
