The Snippets of Love team, which includes 12 stylists, held their 2nd annual Haircuts for Winnipeg Homeless on Sunday, March 19.

Founder Brenda Lee explains they gave 97 free haircuts.

"By the time you open up the door the line was just pouring in, it was fantastic."

Last year the event offered just over 70 cuts.

Along with a new do, everyone who walked through the door received a gift bag of shampoo, deodorant, lip balm, toothpaste and a toothbrush.

For many, the simple gesture is a moving experience.

"The last man there, he wept, he had been on the streets for three days and didn't have a place to stay" Lee explains. "But the last thing he did was give me a hug and said, "you are a fabulous woman," and that just got me."

Lee explains they made a point of treating every client with dignity and respect, "like every other person that has ever sat down at a salon."

Moving forward, the Snippets of Love team is dreaming big, including a bigger venue and added services.

Others have offered to join the event and provide free massages for homeless.

"All we said is God is going to open the doors," Lee says.

She also thanked the many supporters who've made the event a reality.

"Without all of you, I can't do this. And I know there's going to be a bigger picture," Lee says. "I've got dreams of where I want Snippets of Love... it's going to take a lot of people to get there."
