Canada Border Services reports no significant wait times at its busiest port of entry over the Labour Day long weekend.

A total of 21,000 travellers were processed through the Emerson port of entry this past weekend.

"That's up 6.5 per cent over 2016 and a 22 per cent increase over 2015 when our officers processed approximately 17,000 travellers that year," said Jacqueline Callin, media relations officer with CBSA.

CBSA normally increases the number of people working at its larger borders crossings to accommodate the higher flow of traffic on long weekends which likely helped in keeping traffic moving. It also appears travellers are making good use of the CanBorder app to avoid travelling through borders when traffic is heavy.

"The app reports wait times at 26 ports of entry including Emerson, which can be downloaded from our website. A significant wait time at a border crossing is 60 minutes or more, but all wait times of 5 minutes or more are reported through the smart phone app," said Callin.

Callin reminds motorists that the best way to keep wait times to a minimum is by having your I.D. ready to display, put all your receipts from your purchases together, and be open and honest with border officers.
