A number of residents in Plum Coulee will soon be connected to the community's sewer system.

The Plum Coulee East sewer project is almost finished with several more hook-ups to complete.

The project got underway in early fall, but work has taken longer than expected.

"I personally have had some calls from those residents about the project not being finished yet. I'm hoping it will be done shortly because the process is going much slower than we anticipated," said Rhineland Reeve Don Wiebe.

An official with the municipality says he expects the project will be completed in about two weeks.

The low-pressure sewer system will service a total of 24 homes on the east side of the community at a cost of about $350,000.

Meanwhile, steady progress is being made on the Rempel Drain in the Municipality of Rhineland.

The first two miles of the drain was completed last winter.

Wiebe says the province has indicated they will continue with phase two of that project.

"We're very pleased to have received an email from the province indicating that another two miles of the Rempel Drain will be tendered out for a re-design and re-construction in 2019. Again, this will be a winter project."

The Rempel Drain is critical in moving water off of a significant area of farmland in the municipality.
