Work on the $1.2 million Lowe Farm lagoon expansion project in the Rural Municipality of Morris started last fall and will continue until later this year.

After experiencing several delays over the last 10 to 15 years, the Municipality finally received funding approval through the Building Canada Fund allowing construction to get underway last fall.

Reeve Ralph Groening explained that things are going well.

"We are nearing completion and we are confident that the project will be completed by mid-summer. It's been a 10 to 15-year wait to have proper wastewater management for the community of Lowe Farm. The work for dirt moving came in considerably lower than the estimated amount. So we are confident and pretty certain we will come in under the $1.2 million budget, yet uncertain on what that final number will be due to some additional work that has been identified and will add to the cost."

Groening went on to say the existing lagoon has received an added cell and required some dredging, noting that material has to be handled in an environmentally safe way and that has caused some additional costs.

"Once we know what the final number will be, we will share that information with the community and find a way to pay for the necessary infrastructure improvement."

Groening added that regulations are in place, noting council is doing everything to ensure the project is done properly.
