Manitoba Infrastructure is proposing two new bridges for the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin. Reeve Greg Janzen says the drains that Manitoba Infrastructure is referring to are in relation to the main drain.

"Which (the drains) take all the water coming from the southeast part of the municipality," said Janzen. "Right now there are culverts in there that are too small, and are holding too much water back. The plan is to put bridges in there to help the water flow better on the 6 mile near Ridgeville and on Friedensthal Road, making a huge difference," added Janzen.

Janzen continued by saying that years ago there were bridges already in there, which had been replaced by these culverts.

"The province is paying for it.  The reason they are consulting with us is because we will have to re-route some roads and make detours for those roads when construction starts," explained Janzen.

Janzen also added that the detour could add up to twenty minutes or more of driving time for residents that use those roads, for as long as a few months.

" We are leaning toward late October for a timeline, making sure detours do not impact agriculture in the area with planting or harvest season, and of course it really does all depend on the weather," said Janzen.

Janzen went on to say that the construction of the bridges and the relief of water in those areas will certainly make the farmers happy, noting that farmers in the area have been waiting a very long time for this.
