A record-breaking 19 players participated in Eden Foundation's IronMan Golf Tournament this week, raising a whopping $24,000; a 20 percent increase over the last few years.

Earl Reimer, Foundation Director of Development, says the intense endurance event can also become a metaphor of the challenges of mental health. While playing so many consecutive rounds of golf, the little voice in your head starts nagging after one too many bad shots. "One may also begin to berate oneself for being such a poor human being."

"Imagine what that must feel like to have the burden of self-recrimination always nagging in your brain day-in and day-out with no let-up," Reimer says, adding it's the reason the tournament is 72 holes; to showcase how prevalent "that little noise" can be.

All money raised will support Eden Health Care services and projects like the renovation of six suites at Enns Courts in Winkler. Reimer notes other projects include new software and training for Segue Career Options in Winkler and Steinbach, more mental health promotion in Morden, as well as a men's mental health learning event in Winnipeg among others.

He notes next year's event is already scheduled for Monday June 17, 2019 at the Winkler Centennial Golf Course.
