All five of the board members of the Morden and District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) are staying on into 2017 to see the strategic plan to the end.

The announcement was made at the MDCC annual general meeting Thursday afternoon in Morden, where chairman, Chad Sheldon, explained that the future looked bright for the organization.

"The vision was set a year or two ago, and we continue to work towards it," Sheldon said.

"We looked at core areas: partnerships, advocacy, and member engagement and promotion. They all come back to providing the best value for out members, the services and opportunities they would expect from us."

Part of the plan for the City of Morden is to attract new businesses to set up in the community. The MDCC's role in that plan is similar to that of a welcome centre. Companies will call into the MDCC because chambers of commerce are ubiquitous organizations.

"We take a lot of those initial calls," said Sheldon. "We work really closely with the community development corporation--we share leads and often we'll send those inquiries to that department who is more than capable of handling them."

Another announcement made during the meeting was Sheldon's own resignation of the chairman position. He'll remain on the MDCC board, helping with the new chairperson's transition, for another year.

Sheldon was the vice-chair for one year, then the board chair for the past two years.

"After three years, I'm going to step down from the executive position," he said.

"We're very lucky that [the whole board] is staying on and want to see our strategic plan to completion."
