After a long and hard search, Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna has found its next principal.

New Principal Bernie Loeppky

The MCI Board of Directors has announced that Bernie Loeppky will take over the post in July of this year.

In a news release, the board says Loeppky brings a wealth of experience to the school's top position which makes him an ideal candidate to lead MCI forward.

Loeppky has been a teacher at MCI for 3 years and started his teaching career in the Garden Valley School Division. He also has as a volunteer for Mennonite Central Committee in Nova Scotia and Pennsylvania and as an Immigration Consultant.

The MCI board of directors refer to Leoppky as a 'master educator,' who is passionate about enhancing the learning opportunities for young people.

Loeppky's teaching experience has been broad; from math to Bible; music to phys. ed.; art to German. He has been a part-time guidance counselor and coached many sports including gymnastics, badminton, basketball, and soccer. He has been active with school dramas, out-doors club and yearbook.
    
He takes over from Cheryl Braun.
