The Miami Railway Station Museum is only open from July into mid-September, but they had spectacular attendance with over 1,000 visitors.

"All in all it was a very positive and successful year," says Joan Driedger. She was previously the board treasurer, but is now transitioning into her new position as board chair.

Driedger says Gordon and Lorraine Docking, and Dale and Joan Robinson have been part of the museum board for over 25 years, and were now looking for a few fresh faces to step up.

"We were successful in having a couple of people come on board starting in the new year, so we're looking forward to that." She says it is a great opportunity to keep the museum "fresh and new."

Also receiving a fresh face is the building itself. Every year the museum is covered in Christmas lights, inside and out, and this year a couple of men from the community decided to spread some Christmas cheer. "We had to take them down when we had the museum painted, and we haven't had the ability to put them back up. These two gentlemen volunteered and they spent hours climbing up and down a ladder putting those lights up."

The museum also received a grant from the Miami and Area Foundation that will allow them to repaint the inside, now that the drywall has been redone.

Driedger adds, "the big thing we had done was the platform was restored, and it's complete now except for the ramp for accessibility, and that will be done in the spring. The platform is just terrific, it's an awesome thing. We had it done just before the studio art tour."

Along with updates to the building and the studio art tour, there was also the annual garage sale, the living museum day for elementary students, and a car show.

Although these were all exciting, there were two historical events the museum can add to their resume. "We had the wedding, which is a historic event. There's never been a wedding in the museum before, and that was a pretty special event." In October, Gordon Docking was also awarded an award of merit from the Association of Manitoba Museums.

Overall, Driedger says "it was a good year for the Miami Railway Station Museum."
