A small fire was quickly extinguished at an oat-milling facility north of Altona Wednesday morning.

Zimmerman says employees quickly contained the small fire within the mill. Submitted photos.

Seventeen Altona/Rhineland fire fighters responded to the incident at Buffalo Creek Mills around 10:30 am.

Fire Chief Greg Zimmerman says the small blaze occured in a hammer mill after a block in the line kept product from moving. He says the mill kept working and eventually overheated and caught fire.

Zimmerman notes employees swiftly shut off the equipment and isolated the fire to the hammer mill, preventing it from spreading further.

The flames were put out by fire fighters using a hand extinguisher.
