A public hearing was held earlier this week during the monthly Montcalm council meeting. A special services levy proposal was presented asking residents to help pay for fire and emergency services in the Municipality.

Reeve Derek Sabourin says they want to put more onus on residents to help pay for these special services going forward.

"We had our special service hearing today without objection. The proposal shows that we want to fund 70% of our operating budget from a special service levy on properties, resident buildings, commercial and so on with the remaining 30% and fire emergency reserves to come from the mill rate," explained Sabourin.

Sabourin added that the annual costs to residents in the Municipality will be about $130.
