Dry conditions this fall have prompted the City of Morden Parks Department to ask residents to help water their boulevard trees.

"It's especially important with trees that have been planted in the past three years," said Parks Manager Shawn Dias. "We're asking residents if they would go out once a week minimum and give their tree a good soaking."

He went on to say twice a week is ideal, and infrequent deep soakings are still better than frequent shallow watering.

Dias noted watering should be carried out during the cooler parts of the day, such as evening and early morning. The amount of water given should provide a deep soak into the soil, using one of the following approximate measurements including, 20 litres, five and a half gallons, and or can spending between two and four minutes watering with a standard garden hose.

With how dry the conditions are at this moment, Dias would like residents to water their trees until the winter months and or until we receive adequate moisture, which would be a couple of inches or rain.
