Sunday, the 179th Morden Royal Canadian Air Cadets held its Annual Ceremonial Review for family, friends, and honoured guests.

"We've been training for this the whole year," said warrant officer first class Matthew Damphousse. "I've been in here for five years and it been a good experience so far. I think the cadets did very well tonight."

Commanding Officer, Captain Rayleen Van Damme explained the event saw the entire squadron get inspected, as well as a march past and a drum line demonstration.

"It gives them an opportunity to show their parents how well they've done all year," said Van Damme who stated everything went great.

Not only did the cadets showcase what they had learned throughout the year, but the staff took this opportunity to hand out some awards.

The awards handed out are below;

- Top Recruit - Cpl. H. Flores
- Most Improved - FCpl. A. Wiebe
- Top Uniform - Sgt. R. Penner
- Esprit de Corps - Sgt. A. Widmer
- Top Drill - FSgt. J. Morgan
- Most Proficient - FSgt. R. Stewart
- CO's Appreciation - WO1. M. Damphousse
- Legion Medal of Excellence - FCpl. C. Rangel
- Graduation Certificates were presented to FSgt. N. Penner, FSgt. R. Stewart, WO2. A. Brillinger, WO1. M. Damphousse and FSgt. B. Kulikov.

"It has taught me a lot about citizenship actually. Committing more to the community, being a better person in general, and more discipline. Especially if I'm going into the military," said Damphousse who is planning on attending the University of Manitoba for is Bachelor in advance aviation and then enroll in the Canadian military.

Also during the event, there was a change in command of the 179th Squadron. Captain Van Damme, this year's commanding officer, is stepping away from her role and Captain Chris Flook will be the new commanding officer.

"I really enjoy seeing how they change as they get older," explained Van Damme when asked for a highlight over the years. "I get to watch them from when they're twelve until they are eighteen and almost aging out. It's amazing how much they change in that time period."

At the end of the review, Morden Legion stepped forward and made a $4,000 contribution toward the cadets program in Morden to help keep the program running.
