This past weekend around 100 people took part in the 2017 Morden Triathlon. The weather was great, and so was the atmosphere for the entire weekend says event coordinator Heather Janzen.

"I would say most of the athletes that come around to this triathlon are so impressed with the atmosphere and with the beach, and the volunteers," Janzen says. "We've got so much positive feedback and lots of excitement. There's been some tears as to how much fun, and the experience they had. They say Morden is one of the best places to do a triathlon."

Rowan Francis earned the top spot in her age group

According to Janzen numbers were slightly down this year compared to 2016 when there were around 120 competitors compared to approximately 100 this year. She went on to say completing a triathlon gives you a great feeling of accomplishment, because you powered through a daunting race and prevailed.

"It was amazing, we had less athletes, but more action. It was a shorter course, so it felt like there was more excitement and atmosphere for the competitors," Janzen says.

Janzen says this was the first year the group held the Tykes and Trikes event. She explains other communities have done them, and it's a great way for parents to get their kids active and have fun at the same time.

With the response they've been getting over the years, Janzen is looking forward to next year. She noted people are excited to compete in triathlons, and thinks the sport is growing in popularity.
