The community celebrated the success of Morden's Chrissy Peters this weekend with a dance. The Special Olympics Winter World Games medalist recently returned home with both gold and bronze medals.

Team Canada Snowshoeing Coach Sabrina Klassen says travelling to Austria with the athletes was a life-changing experience.

"...to see all these different athletes and coaches from across the world come to this event and compete, it was truly amazing and inspirational," she says.

Peters took on the world in Europe, taking home a gold medal in the 100 metre snowshoe race.

"I had a good time," Peters says, adding the 200 metre was especially challenging.

"The one girl fell and I had to go over her and keep running," she explains, but Peters still went on to place third and take home the bronze medal.

Fellow athlete, Valerie Delorme earned a bronze in the 100 meter race, and silver in the 4x100 relay race.

"They worked so hard for the last four years, just standing here, with her, with the medals around her neck is amazing," Klassen says. "They're well-deserved medals, I'm very proud of them."

Peters had also attended the world games in Shanghai in 2007.
