The Morden Christmas Cheerboard has been busy the last number of days preparing 222 Christmas Hampers for people in the community who are in need of some support at this time of year. Wednesday was delivery day for these hampers consisting of food, gifts, and other household items.

"We have more single person hampers this year than we have in the past. These are both male and female, but quite a few ladies that are needing hampers and finding it a little difficult at this time of year. So, we are looking at bringing them all a little more cheer to them," said Carolyn Shellenberg, cheerboard President.

According to Shellenberg over her roughly ten years with the cheerboard the demand for hampers has increased, she added this year there was a small increase of two hampers.

This is truly a community event, with a number of different organizations and people coming together to help provide a little boost to people in need around the holiday season.

"For me personally I really like helping out in the community," said Morden Thunder hockey team player. "I feel like it's something I can do. The young guys (his team) were here helping out moving boxes. I think it's a good thing for our community."

From the people who took names of people who are in need of these hampers, to the ones who packed them, and the ones who delivered them it really does show how a community and come together and shed some of the wealth to those are in a hard place at this time.

Ray Kirk is one of the many delivery drivers and stated deliveries were going smoothly. Being able to see the smiles and excitement on these families faces when they see all of the contents of these hampers brought to them is extremely heart warming, according to Kirk.

"You drive up and you say to yourself 'I hope their home'. Sometimes you see the little child, little boy or girl in the window looking outside and you can see the smile on their face. They are just really excited," said Kirk.
