Another year has come to a close as 114 students earn their diploma from Morden Collegiate Institute (MCI). The ceremony was held in the Huron Arena at the Access Event Centre.

Marianne Fenn, the principal for MCI, says the 2018 graduating class has been a "confident and positive group."

"They know themselves well, they know each other well," Fenn says. "They care about each other... they've done great. We know they're going on to even greater things."

She explains the student body puts forward potential valedictorian candidates before voting for the winner.

"It was a very close vote... all of them would have been a great candidate," notes Fenn.

Owen Domitruk, the valedictorian for 2018, says his highlights for the past four years were "meeting new kids, learning tons about myself."

Domitruk explains he plans on attending university in Vancouver for engineering after high school.

Following tradition, the graduates and their families are able to take photos at the Research Station starting at 11:00 am, followed shortly after by a large class photo. Fenn advises families and all other attendies to bring waterbottles and/or fans in case of hot weather.
