A pair of Morden Collegiate students have received some hardware during the 'Yes I Can' awards presented by Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children. Maria Giesbrecht and Amber Peters were the recipients from Western School Division (WSD).

"They are made to recognize students that have a 'Yes I Can' attitude, that work really hard in the school, and our girls here won the award specifically for self advocacy," said resource teacher Kari Friesen.

Friesen explained these two girls had their families, teachers, support staff, Division employee's and trustee's there to help cheer them on when they went up to receive the award during a banquet in February.

Giesbrecht and Peters were both lost for words when reflecting on the entire evening and banquet experience.

"It was really nice to see our students up their and it was also good to see students from other school divisions up there and seeing what they are doing in their life skills programs," explained Friesen.

According to Friesen both girls have shown tremendous growth over their years at the school.

"Seeing them here every day working hard is what it's all about," concluded Friesen.
