Recycling money is what the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) group from Morden Collegiate does best, using donated items from students to hold a garage sale. The funds from the sale held last week will be given back to organizations in the community.

The old becomes new.

Phillip Duncan, drama teacher at Morden Collegiate and YIP advisor, said he hoped they earn $500, bringing the group that much closer to their goal of $3,000, the maximum amount the Morden Area Foundation will match.

"We accept grant applications from the community so we can give the money back," said Duncan.

The garage sale was open March 22 and 23. During the evening of the 22nd, there was a line-up of people hoping to get in and peruse the over 1000 items available.

By noon on the last day, one third of the items had been sold.

"We appreciate the support, that's for sure," Duncan said.

One of the students with the Morden YIP, Chloe McCleod, shared what she enjoys most about being part of the benevolent team.

"When you're doing the grants and people are asking you to help them, it felt really good to be able to give them money," McCleod said.
