Local service organizations renew their support for nonprofits in their community, with another donation to the Pembina Valley Child Care Centre.

A donation of $10,500 from the Morden Elks is going directly to aid in the construction of the new childcare facility. Henry Penner is a longtime Elks member.

"Service organizations are meant to make the community a better place...We are very interested in benefiting the youth of our community. We've donated $10,000 previously, so it's an accumulative $20,000."

Penner says the Elks are over a hundred men dedicated to bettering their community. The latest donation is from the funds raised at their annual Lobsterfest, which employs a significant number of the members.

Chairman of Lobsterfest, Jeff Hildebrand, says without local businesses and community involvement, the Elks wouldn't have the capabilities to aid charities and nonprofits. Hildebrand notes the reason they hold Lobsterfest is because it's fun.

"Carman, in particular, puts on a very good Lobsterfest and we thought we'd have a little fun with that. That's what we do in the Elks; we like to have fun, raise money, and then we like to give it away."

The new PVCC facility is estimated at $1.25 million and will add 90 spaces for children of three months to five years of age and create 17 new jobs in the community.

Shuana Richards, PVCC Director, says the project has remained on budget and completion of construction is anticipated for this holiday season, and will begin offering services come Marc
