The 'Make 150 Count' campaign is a program that is celebrating Canada's 150th birthday by giving youth $150 with no strings attached.

Morden Collegiate student Alyssa Alderson was one of the youth who received the grant and used it in a particular way.

"I put mine toward the silent auction at the Chrissy Peters Special Olympics Dance for bringing home gold from the Special Olympic Winter World Games in Austria,'' said Alderson.

Alderson purchased a Hockey Canada jersey, hat, and a Toronto Blue Jays t-shirt and put it all together as a silent auction submission. This package raised a considerable amount for Special Olympics and Morden Fundementals.

"It was a really good feeling. I was just happy to help out. Even thought I thought it was something small it did influence a lot of people," said Alderson.

It all started when the hockey team Alderson plays on went and played basketball against the Special Olympics team in Winkler. After this she wanted to give back to her community and some way and thought everyone should have the opportunity to play a sport of some kind.
