Voter turnout around the region was up on Wednesday, with Morden posting a high of approximately 50 percent, up from approximately 35 percent in the last election.

Winkler posted 41 percent, up slightly compared to 38 percent in 2014, while turnout in Altona was 40 percent. The RM of Stanley posted 24 percent voter turnout, up from 19 percent in 2014.

Morden Senior Elections Official Garry Haggerty says the three-candidate mayor race brought out many to the polls. He notes there were many young families at the voting stations as well.

"We had a lot of people come and some were showing their kids the process," he says. "We also had a lot of young people add their names to the list because they just turned 18."

Warm weather on Wednesday likely helped encourage more people to come out, Haggerty says.

"We were very busy and 50 percent is a pretty good turn out," he says. "I was glad to see the interest."

In Morden, a total of 2,713 people voted.

In Winkler, 3,035 people voted.
