The following is the Morden Police Service report for the period of April 17th to April 24th, 2017, as submitted by the department.

April 19th, 2017

Police received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle from a residence on Conner Hill.  The owner reported that the theft occurred sometime after 10 pm, the following evening while it was parked on their driveway.   The owner reported some money and personal chequebooks were stolen from the vehicle.  The owner observed other more expensive items had been left behind and the vehicle had been unlocked.   Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Morden Police Service at 822-4900, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).


April 20th, 2017

Police received a call from a resident reporting that a female had shown up at their place crying and told them she had been in a fight with her boyfriend and had been assaulted by a female.  Police attended to the residence and discovered that the accused had been at a local bar where she had been in an altercation with another female that was known to her.  After this assault, the accused confronted her boyfriend and struck him several times in the face, and at one point bit him.  The accused was arrested for the Domestic Assault and taken into police custody. While police were investigating this matter, the second female victim arrived on scene and was placed under arrest by officers for Assault and under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act.  Both females were transported to the Morden Police Service.  As a result, a 19-year-old female resident of Morden has been charged with Domestic Assault and was released the following morning on a Promise to Appear in Morden court in May.  The second female was released when sober without charges.  Alcohol was a factor in these incidents.


April 20th, 2017

Police received a report from a citizen advising that around 11 am this date, while walking on Thornhill Street near Nelson Street, he was struck in the leg with a pellet.   The victim did receive minor injuries as a result of the incident but did not require medical attention.  Police have had similar incidents in the past near this same location.  Police are continuing to investigate this matter and ask anyone with information to call the Morden Police Service at 822-4900, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).


April 20th, 2017

Police received a call from a local business advising that an individual had just left and refused to pay for a large food bill.  Police attended to the area and spoke with staff members who indicated the suspect had also stole an item from the business before departing.   Police located the suspect nearby and observed the suspect carrying the stolen item.  The suspect was arrested for the Theft and taken into police custody.  The business had their property returned and wished to have the suspect banned from their property.  The suspect was apologetic and released without charges.


April 23rd, 2017

Police received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 300 block of 11th street in Morden.  The owner advised police that the vehicle was last seen at 8 pm the previous evening and was missing in the morning.   The vehicle was described as a 2004 grey 4 door Mazda.  A subsequent investigation revealed that the stolen vehicle had been abandoned in a field near Roland, Manitoba.  Police continue to investigate this matter and ask anyone with information to call the Morden Police Service at 822-4900, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).


During this period, members of the Morden Police Service issued 8 Provincial Offence Notices to Drivers for using their cell phones or other hand operated electronic devices while driving a vehicle.  Police remind the public, that besides the overall safety issue, this offence carries a fine in the amount of $203.80 and points against their drivers licence.
