It was a chance for Morden Police and the Lions Club to connect and teach the community's younger generation about safety.

Last week Officers and members of the Lions Club visited the Maple Leaf and Minnewasta Schools and completed Kindergarten ID Kits with the students.

The ID Kits provided an opportunity for the students to learn about talking to strangers and many other safety tips.

"We assist the Lions Club in taking the fingerprints of the Kindergartens," said Constable Chris Flook.

Flook said these kits, once complete, are brought home by the students to their parents. He added parents can use these booklets as a teaching method with their children. It can also be a helpful tool for Emergency Crews looking for a lost child because there is a spot for an updated photo along with updated information, which can be given to emergency services.

There were around 70 students at Minnewasta and approximately 100 at Maple Leaf who were able to receive these booklets.

Being part of the community and connecting with the residents is something Morden Police value because it helps residents understand Police Officers are there to help.

"It gives the youth some knowledge that they can actually come and talk to us if they need help," said Flook. "We aren't scary imposing people, we are here to help the community."
