Morden Police Service has joined with the Morden Coffee Culture for another year of rewarding safe driving.

Officers are pulling people over to reward them for proper driving habits. The department started with 100 gift cards worth $5 at the Morden location. The cards will continue to be given out until they're gone.

"This is something we thought was a great idea," said Morden police chief, Brad Neduzak. "Normally, we're stopping people and telling them that they've done something wrong."

Neduzak added that people who have been pulled over have been surprised and encouraged when, instead of a ticket, they receive a gift card.

He believes people need to know when they're doing what's right, "This is a great little program for us, getting our officers speaking to people and commending them for doing things right," Neduzak said.

Within the department, the officers are happy to be involved in a program which summons a pleasant response from people, rather than the typical frustration and anger officers receive when they pull people over.

The gift cards are only valid at the Morden Coffee Culture until Jan. 31, 2017.
