The following is the latest Morden Police Service report for the period of May 15th to May 22th, 2017, as submitted by the department.

May 16th, 2017

Police received a school bus driver report of a vehicle that travelled through the stop sign on the bus, while the flashing red lights were activated.  Police were provided with a video of the offence and followed up with the vehicle owner.  As a result, a 26-year-old resident of Morden has been charged with, Pass a stopped school bus and issued a fine in the amount of $673.65.  Motorists are required to stop for school buses when their stop sign is out and lights are flashing.

May 17th, 2017
 
Police were conducting licence plate checks and located a vehicle that was inactive due to a missed time payment.  Police conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver.  Police confirmed that the vehicle insurance had not been paid and when police conducted drivers licence checks it was discovered that the driver was suspended.  As a result, a 43 year old resident of Morden was charged with Drive an Unregistered vehicle and Drive while Disqualified.  The accused vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 30 day period.

May 17th, 2017

Police received a report of a hit and run to a vehicle that occurred on 10th street in Morden on May 10th between 6:15 pm and 7:30 pm.  The driver advised that they parked the vehicle, a 2010 red Dodge Grand Caravan, diagonally along the grounds of the Maple Leaf School.  The driver returned to the vehicle and noticed scratches along the rear driver side of the vehicle.  Anyone with information regarding this incident are asked to call the Morden Police Service at 822-4900, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com or text “TIPMAN” plus your message to CRIMES (274637).


May 18th, 2017

Police received a call of two males and a female arguing and screaming at each other behind an apartment block.  Police arrived on scene and could not locate any suspects who were fighting.  A subsequent investigation led police to the top level of the apartment block and police could hear the suspects in one of the suites.  Police spoke with two males and one female and discovered that the female was on conditions to not contact or communicate with the renter of the apartment.  As a result, the female was taken into police custody for breaching her undertaking.  The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for the same date as her original charges in May.

May 21st, 2017

Police were conducting licence plate checks and located a vehicle that showed inactive and the owner to be suspended.  Police conducted a traffic stop and confirmed that the vehicle was unregistered and the driver to be suspended.  As a result, a 30 year old resident of Winnipeg was charged with Drive an unregistered vehicle and Drive while Disqualified. The accused vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 30 day period.  


During this reporting period, police issued 16 Provincial Offence Notices to drivers.  Out of those charged, 6  were for drivers caught using their cell phones while driving.  Police remind the public that over and above the usual safety concerns, this ticket carries a penalty of $203.80 and points against their licence.
