Businesses hiring new employees or looking for financial assistance in construction may be eligible for the Morden Community Development Corporation (MCDC) incentive program.

Community Development Officer Cheryl Digby said there is a pair of options under this initiative.

"There's a choice of a labour incentive, which is a $1,000 a job for new and expanding businesses in the start-up stages," said Digby.

The second option is 100 percent credit for the general municipal tax mill rate and the special service mill rate for emergency services in the first two years of their involvement, then 50 percent in the third year, and 25 percent in the fourth and final year.

She said anything that is going to create new jobs in the community or create additional municipal taxes in the way of building are eligible for this program.

"The city recognizes that the economic development comes from businesses inside the city, both new and growing business," said Digby. "To be successful and help business be successful they need the most help in the startup stage."

Digby said Council has budgeted $150,000 for the program.
