Last week the City of Morden presented its Integrated Pest management Plan to the community. Parks Manager Shawn Dias noted this is a part of applying for a permit with the Province. This proposed pesticide program outlines the chemicals or products the City may possibly use during the validity of the permit.

"We do have a three-year pesticide permit with the Province so we have to be cognizant of the chemicals or products we may be using now and may use in a couple of years," said Dias.

The City does have some guidelines as to what products are allowed to be used for certain situations.

"We are governed by the non-essential use. That in itself has allowable and restricted chemicals there. Overall we are following an integrated pest management strategy for all of our pests," said Dias.

This may not be the only time the City will make a public notice because certain chemicals require a notice to be given prior to starting the application program. Dias stated one of these chemicals is the one used for Elm Bark Beetles, which gets used in August is one of the chemicals which requires further notification.

If anyone is opposed or has an objection to this program presented by the City you have fifteen days after the notice was published (March 22nd), send a written submission to Manitoba Conservation regarding the control program.
