Another candidate has announced her intention to seek the Progressive Conservative party nomination in the newly formed Borderland constituency.

Liz Hildebrand has thrown her name in the hat.

Hildebrand worked with Cameron Friesen during the Tory nomination in the Morden-Winkler riding in 2011 and feels that experience gave her some insight into what it takes to be a member of the Legislative Assembly.

"As you know, the boundaries have changed so drastically that a lot of the constituents that are now in the Borderland riding were in the Morden-Winkler riding. So, working on casework and doing constituency relations just gave me really good insight as to the work that an MLA has to be on top of."

Hildebrand lives in Morden, but grew up on a farm and spent part of her childhood in the eastern part of the riding, in the community of Roseau River.

She joins three other candidates who have also announced their intention to seek the Tory nomination.

Hildebrand says her past political work and her experience in other areas of life make her a solid candidate.

"Having lived in a number of different areas within Manitoba and having had the opportunity of owning my own business when I was in my mid-twenties, having that agricultural background, and having the opportunity for the last eight years to work with an MLA and with constituency issues allows me to better understand this very, very diverse riding called Borderland."

Hildebrand says she'd like to see the province deal promptly with the issue of education taxes on farmland.

"I'd like to dig into that issue and try to find some sort of solution. I don't have the answer to it, but I'd like to investigate it more."

She also says immigration continues to be a major issue for manufacturers in this region, and it's something she intends to champion.

"We need workers and we've heard a lot about red tape and reducing a lot of the red tape and I do know the provincial government is presently rolling that out now, so I'm excited to see ... if that will help the immigration process as well. I want to stress, however, that legal immigration is the way to go. We cannot go through the back door."

The three other candidates who have announced their intention to seek the Tory nomination in Borderland include Altona residents Jordan Siemens and Verna Heinrichs, and Winkler resident Don Cruickshank.
