Last week Dave DeStoop was announced as Morden Area Foundation's Citizen of Distinction for 2020, because of his contributions to the community, and he was completely surprised when he found out.

"I was not aware of anything until Lynda (Lambert) told me one day. It's an honour to have the citizens do that, I really appreciate it, and there's been a lot of people that have acknowledged my presence," said Dave.

In addition to being honourd by the community, Dave also got the opportunity to give $1,000 to the organization of his choice. He presented the cheque to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #11 in Morden on Monday afternoon.

"We felt it was important we honour the Legion, it's members, it's past members and the veterans ... they've been going through some difficult times, and we felt it was a proper location," said DeStoop.

Not only that, but Dave also wanted to Pay it Forward with brownies made by Chef Kevin Funk.

"So besides honouring our past, we also want to honour our future, and I felt it was important we honour the youth of Morden. They are the ones that are coming up, they're the ones going to be the Citizens of Distinction in the future, hopefully sooner than later. Quite often, that crowd, where we were today, don't really get acknowledged. They do a lot, put in a lot of hours, they put in a lot of time, and we feel it's really important that they be acknowledged as well," said Dave about the brownie deliveries.

Each delivery came with balloons from Dave's store Morklers in the colours of Winkler Community Foundation and Morden Area Foundation's Pay it Forward May initiative!
