École Morden Middle School teacher, Becky Williams, also a member of the Morden Area Foundation (MAF) Board, has been working with her students all year to teach random acts of kindness.

One of these acts was a taco bag fundraiser for Katie Cares during Pay-it-Forward May.

"Their kind of slogan for this grade five class is 'kids helping kids.' That's why they wanted to do these beanie babies in particular because they knew that they could buy those things and it's going to help little kids," says MAF Executive Director, Lynda Lambert.

The MAF already partners with schools in the Western School Division, so it only seemed natural to work with the students by matching their donations.

$710 was raised at the Taco in a Bag lunch, and $28.55 from a couple of students that sold homemade slime. With those funds doubled by the MAF, $1,477.10 was presented to Katie's Cottage Wednesday morning.

Lambert says that teaching kids about what they can achieve when working together is important for the community, and future of the foundation.

"There is so much that you can do. When they are taught these random acts of kindness too, that's no money involved in that, you're just doing things for people," she says.

The class was also invited to take a tour of the cottage with Ruth Reimer to learn about the impact their donation will make.
