The final numbers are still coming in, but it looks like just over $19,000 was raised during fund raising events hosted this past week by the Pembina Valley Twisters, Morris Mavericks, Red River Mud Bugs and Red River Wild. The 9th

annual event in support of CancerCare Manitoba concluded Saturday in Morris. The week included four days of local hockey fun and a silent auction.

Pat Schmitke is Co-owner of the Pembina Valley Twisters. He said being a part of the team has always been about contributing back to the community.

"We're very proud to have a hockey team that supports causes such as this."

As added incentive to bring in donations, Schmitke committed to shaving his head and moustache and he did just that Saturday evening as the Twisters and St. James Canadiens were finishing up the game on the ice.

Meantime, Schmitke extended a 'thank you' to the four hockey teams and the volunteers for coming together to make the fund raiser another great success.

"What's coming to mind is the awesome support that we've received from the communities around us once again. It's been a great fund raiser."

Nearly $145,000 has been raised for CancerCare Manitoba in the 9 year history of the fund raiser.
