The Morris Multiplex has experienced vandalism to equipment and general disruptiveness.

For this reason, Director Melissa Marion said they will no longer allow groups of students to use the facility as a hangout spot, especially during school hours.melissa marionMelissa Marion, Director of Morris Multiplex

"Recently we've seen an increase in groups and students coming to the Morris Multiplex. Normally it's during school hours, whether the kids have spares or they're leaving the school property."

She noted it wasn't an issue at first but now they've seen damage to the facility, people going to locked areas of the building, and tampering with equipment.

"Now we're asking that any person or any student that is coming to the facility, that they are accompanied by a parent of a teacher," she said.

Marion explained what some of the incidents have been so far.

"We've had sanitary napkins that are being stuck to all of the walls, we've had drawings and words and comments on walls, on our equipment, on our... office spaces and stuff like that."

The responsibility of monitoring the area has recently fallen on the building's office staff.

"We don't have the means to patrol and to ensure that our equipment or facility is kept safe," said Marion, noting that replacing sports equipment is very expensive.

Office staff will now ask people found loitering to leave the facility, and RCMP will be monitoring the building more closely.
