The Morris Legion hosted an annual Decoration Day ceremony Sunday afternoon.

The event happens every June to recognize and honour veterans who have served in past wars.

As part of the program, cadets and representatives of specific organizations laid wreaths under the Morris cenotaph to commemorate veterans, following the indoor service and parade.

Gerald Fontaine, president of the Morris Legion, said the ceremony holds significant value.

“It's an act of remembrance... to recognize [veterans'] efforts and what they have done to help us out in this world,” he said, when describing the importance of Decoration Day.

While some people may be more familiar with Remembrance Day than they are with Decoration Day, they differ in character. However, Fontaine said we can never remember too often.
