Construction of the Town of Morris splash pad will begin this week, however, the project is still in need of funds.

Project coordinator Melanie Friesen said approximately $30,000 of the $221,000 total is required. Currently, the Town of Morris will cover the remaining funds until the project committee is able to repay the loan.

To do this, Friesen said they will be launching a fundraiser next week, which will continue throughout the month of July. Community members, whether a resident or a business, will be able to sponsor a brick with their name or logo on it, and then all the bricks will be put together to form the connection between the pool deck and the picnic shelter.

Though the shortage of funding has proven to be an issue, Friesen said that was not the biggest obstacle.

"We wanted [the splash pad] to be themed after our community. We did see a lot of different quotes come across our desk, and we were still kind of uneasy about it until we actually saw the stampede one... that was one of the challenges: finding something that everyone is going to really like and take pride in," she said.

The splash pad is anticipated to open in September of this year.
