The RM of Morris Council has had discussions in the past about inspections of commercial properties, which are properties of more than 600 square meters.

RM of Morris Reeve Ralph Groening said council has moved ahead with plans to ask the MSTW Planning District to take over those inspections.

"We made the decision to approach MSTW to inquire whether they would have the capacity and whether they would be interested, in managing our Part 3 inspections," he said.

Groening noted council is ready to move ahead, and MSTW board and staff seem ready to take over the responsibility from the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC).

"MSTW Chair Peter Froese suggested time frame would be in the range of 3 to 4 months, it involved their board approving our request, and then the request going to the Province of Manitoba and OFC staff for their final approval."

Groening hopes to have the changes in place by spring.
