People from the Municipality of Morris lined up Wednesday evening to check out the new rescue fire truck purchased by the local fire department.

Fire Chief Bernard Schellenberg said the new machine came with a hefty price tag, but he was pleased with the response from the community.

" The Open house was to show off our new rescue machine that came at a cost of $350,000. The community raised half the funds needed to purchase the new machine with the Municipality covering the other half, so it was nice to show people the reward from all their fundraising effort."

The new truck is a walk in that seats a total of eight people, two in the front and six in the back on top of having a number of other useful additions.

"It took us about a year and a half to put these funds together, the community has been so supportive we are so grateful that anytime we want to do a fundraiser the community always steps up to the plate. This truck also serves as a command centre and six of the firefighters can even throw on a self-contained breathing apparatus while on route to a call. This new truck will not only be used for fire emergencies but as a command centre in larger scale emergencies and it's equipped with first response and extrication tools," explained Schellenberg.

Schellenberg added that the truck also has a command light that will come in handy any time they respond to a call at night.
