A song close to the hearts of four local musicians has garnered a trio of Gospel Music Awards.

The Color recently took home Music Video Of The Year at the GMA Covenant Awards in Edmonton earlier this week for 'What I Would Say To You'.

Filmed in the Pembina Valley by local director Kenneth Giesbrecht, the music video is part of a larger short film project that depicts stories of tragedy and hope from within the Pembina Valley community.

"This award isn't just for The Color, it's really for the community," band member James Shiels says. "There were so many people involved, and it wasn't something that could've happened unless the community got behind it."

Currently recording in Nashville, the band was unable to attend the award show, but say they were hoping the project would be recognized.

"When we found out we won, right away all of us just had this sigh of relief," Shiels says. "We wanted it so much for everyone involved, for those stories that were being told."

He says the song and videos will continue to reach people "because of the vulnerability so many had in this process."

The band also took home Pop Song Of The Year, and Recorded Song Of The Year for "What I Would Say To You".

Last year the Color made their fourth trip to the Covenant Gospel Music Awards where they took home Pop Song Of The Year for "One Sure Thing" as well as Collaboration Of The Year for a project with a number of artists including Winnipeg based rapper Fresh IE and country singer Paul Brandt.
