Chad Sheldon, co-owner with his wife of Floral Scents in Morden, is the new business development specialist with the Morden Community Development Corporation (MCDC).

"It's always been an interest," Sheldon said, who's a business owner and the board chair of the Morden District Chamber of Commerce.

"[I was] always looking for an opportunity to become part of the growth of our great city," he said, "So when the opportunity arose, I jumped on it."

The position was created to handle the strong interest businesses have in moving to or opening in Morden.

"There's a lot of activity going on," said Sheldon about the Community Development Office where he started working two weeks ago.

"There's lots of development happening. Lots of people [are] looking to bring their family to Morden and open a business, and there's lots of people looking for business opportunities in Morden."

Sheldon's job is to respond to such inquiries and to set up the interested people with potential locations, business partners, accountants, contacts, lawyers, etc. At the moment, there is no specific type of business which Sheldon sees more than others, rather, a broad array of curious investors and businesses.

"I couldn't list just one. There's many," Sheldon said.

For some businesses, setting up in Morden is a long process, taking years depending on the development or idea.

Sheldon's past two weeks have already been busy. He said he's had to "jump in with both feet."

"The best way to get a handle on things is to be immersed in it," said Sheldon. He admits to being surprised at the busy atmosphere in the Community Development Office.
