Winkler will see a new outdoor ice rink and feature at the Winkler Golf Course in celebration of Canada's 150th anniversary.

Partnering with the Community Foundation of Canada and the City of Winkler, the Winkler Community Foundation granted $21,000 to two projects Tuesday.

"We're happy to bring in outside dollars into our community," WCF Executive Director Myra Peters says. "We didn't want to miss out on this opportunity of the Canada 150 fund, and we had some great project applying to it."

The City of Winkler received $15,000 for a new outdoor ice rink to be built in the South end of Winkler. The city will match the $15,000.

The Winkler Centennial Golf Course received $6,000 towards a commerative bridge project to be built near the 9th hole of the course. The golf course has also raised matching dollars to complete the project. Part of the funds will also be used for a golf tournament in celebration of Canada's 150 milestone.

"Canada's 150th is an historic moment with the power to strengthen our communities and our connection to one another," Community Foundations of Canada President Ian Bird said in a release, adding the Community Fund for Canada's 150th has sparked thousands of initiatives and activities.

The fund has been matched and delivered locally across the country's 191 community foundations.
