Summer is construction season in southern Manitoba and crews are hard at work in Carman.

Mayor Bob Mitchell says some curb replacement is already underway in a few spots throughout town. He adds Council has also set aside $80,000 to repair sidewalks near the Golden Prairie Arts Council building and downtown along 1st St. SW.

"We are replacing the brick sidewalks with concrete, we want to get rid of the paving stones."

He explains the sidewalks on the west side of 1st St. SW will be replaced first, followed by the east side.

"You can't do it all at once because some businesses only have one entrance so you've got to do parts and then try to work around when they're open."

This work is in addition to the new sidewalks going in along Highway 13 as part of that reconstruction project.
