Work toward a regional wastewater treatment facility has taken another step forward as the three partnering communities have submitted a joint grant application.

The regional project is being organized by the R.M of Stanley, the City of Morden and City of Winkler.

Stanley Reeve Morris Olafson said things look to be in their favour, with the Federal Government allocating more money into infrastructure.

The grant applied for could see 50 percent of the estimated $70 million cost covered by the Federal Government and the province paying another 25 percent. The remaining costs would be split between the three communities.

"For the local community it's a win-win if we can have around eighty percent of the project covered," said Olafson.

The grant application is expected to take a number of months.
