Municipal drains are filling up across our region as the spring melt continues.

In the RM of Morris, there is some minor overland flooding, according to Reeve Ralph Groening.

"No homes have been threatened at this point, but there were a few people that were concerned. Right now we have everything under control and we are managing to deal with the issue of ice along bridges to make sure water continues to flow."

Groening says some of the east-west drains typically overflow at this time of year because they are unable to accommodate all of the runoff. He says water has topped a few roads in the RM.

"We typically have concerns along both the Kronsgard Drain and Moyer Drain. Both of those have some modest overflow and we've been monitoring them and have machines in place to ensure the water continues to flow. Water Resources has also been working with us to make sure the water flows unimpeded."

Groening says the gradual snow melt this spring has been a big help in allowing municipalities to manage water flow. He is cautiously optimistic the municipality may be able to escape a major high water event and that the 2017 spring flood will result in minor consequences for ratepayers.
